Universally applicable: disinfection wipes with low alcohol content

Today, many users assume that ready-to-use disinfection wipes fulfil a number of criteria. In addition to a reliable antimicrobial activity, material compatibility, and time and cost efficiency are the decisive factors when selecting a product.

Single-use wipes with a low alcohol content meet these requirements: they not only offer user-friendly handling and a high level of occupational safety, but simplify the disinfection of surfaces particularly thanks to the following three properties:

1) Material compatibility
The combination of low alcohol content and special auxiliary substances makes it possible to gently disinfect almost all kinds of surfaces*:

  • displays and keyboards or touch pads of sensitive communication equipment, e.g. mobile phones, computers, and monitoring systems
  • sensitive surfaces, e.g. made from Makrolon®, acrylic glass, polysulphone, and artificial leather
  • sensitive, non-invasive medical devices, e.g. mammography equipment, operating theatre lamps, ultrasonic heads and Infusomats.

*When disinfecting surfaces, observe the device manufacturers’ instructions.

2) Exposure times
Depending on the manufacturer, single-use wipes with a low alcohol content offer short exposure times. The advantages:

  • surfaces and medical devices can be used again quickly after disinfection
  • working time is saved.

3) Area output

A recent study [1] demonstrates that polyester fleece-based disinfection wipes with a low alcohol content and a high saturation volume offer a particularly high area output.

The study could prove that the area output of ready-to-use disinfection wipes depends on the specially selected combination of different wipe properties such as active ingredient, wipe material, absolute saturation volume and wipe size.

Disinfection in high-risk areas in accordance with VAH recommendation

Thanks to their comprehensive material compatibility, single-use wipes with a low alcohol content can also be used in highly digitised units. In addition, the wipes meet the recommendations of the German Association for Applied Hygiene (VAH) on the use of wipes dispenser systems in high-risk areas such as intensive care, haematological oncology, neonatology and burn units. Disinfection wipes with a low alcohol content neither require the no longer recommended reprocessing nor costly microbiological in-use hygiene controls.
