Routine disinfection (also: regular, prophylactic or preventive disinfection)

Routine disinfection has the objective of stemming the spread of pathogens still during patient care and treatment. Routine disinfection covers near-patient surfaces or those with frequent hand or skin contact (bedframes, bedside tables, doorknobs), which presumably became contaminated with pathogens without noticeable or visible evidence.

The disinfection is recommended to be carried out with a surface disinfectant that is bactericidal, yeasticidal and virucidal against enveloped viruses.
