Isolation

(from Latin: to cut off, to insulate, to separate).

Related to hospital hygiene, isolation is for separating patients with dangerous infectious diseases or patients with weakened immune defence. Example: In certain circumstances (see RKI recommendations), patients colonised with MRSA pose a risk to other patients not carrying MRSA and are isolated in single or cohort rooms (cohort isolation) to prevent the spread of the bacteria.
