Cause of hepatitis B, also known as serum hepatitis involving inflammation of the liver. The virus is mainly transmitted parenterally, but also orally or through contact with mucous membranes. For healthcare workers, hepatitis B ranks among the occupational diseases. Protective measures include active protective vaccination, disinfection measures and wearing single-use gloves. In addition, in hospitals, the transmission from patient to patient needs to be prevented.
Note: Since 2004, a disinfection procedures activity against HBV is approved when it is virucidal against enveloped viruses.
