NEW: Mikrobac® Tissues now also available in XXL format for large surfaces

From now on, disinfection of large surfaces is even more efficient: the ready-to-use Mikrobac Tissues in XXL format (250 x 380 mm) ensure complete disinfection of large surfaces in one step. The rule of thumb: one tissue suffices to disinfect the surface of 2 m².

Thus, the new disinfection tissues can be of great help when disinfecting, for example, patient and resident stretchers, surgical and X-ray tables, patient transfer areas, walking frames and surfaces in ambulances. Thanks to their extra-large format, Mikrobac Tissues XXL are handy and guarantee convenient handling. For smaller surfaces of approx. 1 m² we recommend the tried and tested Mikrobac Tissues in normal size (180 x 200 mm).

Mikrobac Tissues are made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET). This material does not adsorb any active ingredients and thus ensures complete release of active ingredient to the surfaces to be disinfected. Surfaces can be used again after an exposure time of one minute only. Mikrobac Tissues are bactericidal, yeasticidal, virucidal against enveloped viruses (incl. HBV, HIV, HCV) and active against MNV, rotavirus and polyomavirus.

Simply disinfect: HARTMANN’s new pre-saturated tissues for surface disinfection

Ensuring easy application, high occupational safety and cost efficiency, the pre-soaked disinfection wipes from HARTMANN have established as a modern alternative to conventional surface disinfection. The range has now been complemented: Bacillol® 30 Tissues gently and reliably disinfect surfaces of mobile phones and other mobile communication devices, touch screens and monitors. In addition, they are suitable for the cleaning disinfection of non-immersible medical devices. And Bacillol® AF Tissues are the new remedy for the rapid disinfection of alcohol-resistant surfaces.

Users can now choose from a range of products for easy and rapid disinfection that solve virtually any hygienic challenge from routine disinfection to outbreak situations and are able to safely disinfect even most sensitive surfaces.

All pre-saturated surface disinfection wipes feature a well-balanced combination of soaking solution and premium fleece for optimal release of active ingredients to the surface. The handy PE/PET Flowpack with tightly and safely resealable plastic lid protects the tissues. The special folding allows easy dispensing of individual wipes. Long standing times of three months after opening and no preparation time make surface disinfection not only easier, but much more efficient. Special highlight: all HARTMANN tissues are compatible.

Disinfecting surfaces contaminated with Clostridioides difficile

The occurrence of C. difficile in healthcare facilities involves contamination of up to 30 per cent of the surfaces, which may then be a reservoir for new infections. According to environmental examinations, C. difficile is most frequently found on floors (46 %), bedframes (19 %), radiators (19 %) and chests of drawers (8%) respectively. In addition, C. difficile spores can persist on surfaces for up to five months.

For surface disinfectants to be effective, they need to possess sporicidal activity. The latest Robert Koch-Institute (RKI) guide to control C. difficile that applies to Germany recommends using oxygen-releasing agents (1). This, for example, includes products based on magnesium monoperoxyphthalate hexahydrate (MMPP). The guideline further recommends a daily wipe disinfection of (hand-contact) surfaces near patients (e.g. bedside tables, bedframes, wet/sanitary areas, toilettes, door handles). If required, the frequency is to be increased and the disinfection measures are to be extended to other surfaces possibly contaminated. For targeted disinfection, coarse contaminants need to be hygienically removed (e.g. with a tissue) and disposed of first. Afterwards, when the surface is disinfected, it is imperative to pay attention to possible limitations in efficacy of the disinfectant used (e.g. through organic loads).

Efficient against germs – surface disinfectants for infection protection

Surface disinfection has gained much importance in infection prophylaxis. Studies confirm: clinically relevant pathogens often can persist on surfaces for weeks or months – cross contamination poses a permanent risk.

Surfaces that come into contact with hands and skin frequently as well as areas that most likely become contaminated should be disinfected daily. Here, the selection of procedures and products very much depends on the respective inanimate surface’s infection potential. For surface disinfection in hospitals, the Commission for Hospital Hygiene and Infection Prevention at the Robert Koch-Institute (RKI) classified risk areas and specified indications that are incorporated into the hygiene plan in accordance with the conditions and requirements in the individual hospitals.

Based on the risk analysis or indications for surface disinfection, the products that are used fulfil the European standards and – depending on the necessary spectrum of effect and national recommendations– are listed by the RKI, the Association for Applied Hygiene (VAH), or the German Veterinary Medicine Society (DVG).

Further criteria for selecting products include material compatibility, cost effectiveness, convenience, application times, odour, and wetting properties. One of the products offering short exposure times, strong cleaning power and virucidal activity is the aldehyde-based Kohrsolin® FF. Mikrobac® forte is the right choice for disinfecting surfaces without aldehyde. The range of products for rapid disinfection includes the ready-to-use alcohol-based disinfectant Bacillol AF for alcohol-resistant surfaces and Bacillol 30 Foam for sensitive surfaces.
