Trichosporon spp.



Most yeasts that proliferate by budding or division have a tubular form.

Trichosporon spp. is filamentous and yeast-like fungus, which belongs to the Cryptococcaceae family. It is a mixture of septate hyphae and yeasts. Trichosporon spp. can be found worldwide in soil and it is part of animal skin and mucosa.

Trichosporon spp. causes trichosporinosis and the white piedra. Latter describes the mycosis of hair shafts.  

The major mode of transmission is by direct or indirect contact with contaminated persons or subjects.
