Curved, straight or bean-shaped: bacilli come in many variants and are widely spread.

Francisella tularensis (also Pasteurella tularensis) is a Gram-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped bacterium. It belongs to the Francisellaceae family.

The bacterium is the causative agent of tularemia in both animals (especially rodents) and humans. For humans, this disease is often life-threatening (lethality 33 %).

The main transmission path is direct or indirect contact with contaminated persons or objects.
