Curved, straight or bean-shaped: bacilli come in many variants and are widely spread.

Corynebacterium diphtheriae is an aerobic, club-shaped, Gram-positive bacterium of the Corynebacteriaceae family.

It causes diphtheria. The toxins mostly damage organs such as liver, kidneys or heart muscle.

Transmission mainly occurs via droplets or particles in the air.
